Cumulative Change in Health Care Utilization and Price, 2012–2016

In January 2018, we released our 2016 Health Care Cost and Utilization Report. The main takeaway from the report? Health care spending is increasing because prices are increasing, not because people are using more services. To see how prices are contributing to health care spending growth, we look at the overall changes in price compared with overall changes in use across a variety of health care services. HCCI created this visualization tool to make it easier for interested observers to explore the data. Hover over the lines to see the price and utilization rates for the different service categories in each year. Any service category with a    in the legend can be explored further by clicking on it in the legend. Categories can be added or removed from charts by clicking the boxes in the legends.
